FIR against Amazon over ‘duplicate’ productsGurgaon: The owner of a city-based company manufacturing ayurvedic medicines has lodged a police complaint alleging that some of its duplicate products were being sold on Amazon.

Devender Singh, the complainant, alleged he had approached Amazon several times and alerted the e-commerce giant about the duplicate products. “Despite the repeated mails, they did not take any action. In fact, they did not even respond to my communication,” said Singh. He claimed he had lost Rs 5 crore because of the duplicate products.

Following Singh’s complaint, an FIR has been lodged against Amazon under IPC Section 420 (cheating) and Section 63 of the Copyright Act Police commissioner KK Rao said the duplicate products were being manufactured in Bhopal.

An Amazon India spokesperson said, “Our customers expect that when they make a purchase through Amazon’s marketplace they will receive authentic products. Amazon strictly prohibits the sale of counterfeit products and we invest heavily in both funds and company energy to ensure our policy is followed by third party sellers selling on We investigate any claim of counterfeit thoroughly, including removing the item, permanently removing the bad actor, pursuing legal action as appropriate.”
